Ready to LAUNCH by Supermoon Lacquer | Indie Polish Review

**this product is a press sample and was sent to me to swatch and give my honest review**

People, have I ever got a gorgeous collection to show you today!! I want to introduce you to The Howling Boutique‘s Supermoon Lacquer created by the ever-so-lovely (and super sweet and hilarious) Mardi. She has been making beautiful jewelry for years with nail polish that she has made for her own jewelry-making purposes, epilepsy and recently decided to create her own nail polish brand.

Her debut collection is called “Ready to LAUNCH”, and has 9 outer space themed polishes in a variety of colors and finishes (including multi-chromes, holo duo-chromes, holos, and shimmers). The formulas on every single one of these polishes is pure amazingness, and they applied like a dream! I used 2 coats and top coat for each of my swatches.

Mardi sent me lots of information on each of these polishes and their inspiration, and I’m going to include that in my post, because I think it will not only give you an idea of where she got her inspiration, but also give you an idea of who she is as a person. Someone who is extremely talented and creative, and takes time and pleasure in creating beauty! So, grab a cup of coffee, and sit back and enjoy the pictures, because you’re also going to get a little science lesson today! =P (you can thank Mardi for that, because it was so interesting for me to read that I wanted to share with all of you how she was inspired!)

THB SuperMoon Lacquer ready to launch collection 2

[star cloud] the polish: described as a bright aqua blue with gold-to-green color shifting shimmer and gold and turquoise sparkle. This is such a gorgeous blue! Can you see the amazing shimmer?!

The real thing: also known as ‘star clusters’; they are groups of stars with two types being distinguishable: globular clusters (tight groups of hundreds or thousands of very old stars which are gravitationally bound) and open clusters (very young stars in loosely clustered groups of less than a few hundred stars).

[polar light] the polish: a light green scattered holographic with subtle gold-to-green color shifting shimmer and a smudge of blue-to-green iridescent microglitters. Ok, so you know me and greens…I LOVE this green!!!!! And that hint of gold? GOR.GEOUS!!!!

The real thing: a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions. The effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the Northern Lights) in northern latitudes, and it’s southern counterpart is called the aurora australis (or the Southern Lights).

[stellar stream] the polish: a bright bubblegum pink with a strong turquoise-to-purple color shifting shimmer. This is such a fun pink!

The real thing: an association of stars orbiting a galaxy, once a globular cluster (a spherical collection of stars that orbits a galactic core as a satellite) or a dwarf galaxy (a small galaxy composed of up to several billion stars), that’s been torn apart and stretched out along its orbit by tidal forces.

[galactic halo] the polish: an orchid purple scattered holographic with blue undertones and a strong violet-to-blue color shifting shimmer. Dude. PURPLE!!!!! I don’t have to tell you that this is my favorite of the bunch! But seriously, how gorgeous is this one??!!

The real thing: an extended, roughly spherical, part of a galaxy which extends beyond the main body and is comprised of several distinct components: the galactic spheroid (stars), the galactic corona (hot gas or plasma), and the dark matter halo (affects the motions of the galaxy’s stars and gas).

[tidal disruption] the polish: a dark teal green with gold-to-green color shifting shimmer and gold, turquoise, and green sparkle. Teals have become one of my favorite polish colors recently, and this one is no exception! She’s so pretty!!!

The real thing: an astronomical phenomenon which occurs when a star gets too close to a supermassive black hole’s event horizon. It’s then actually pulled apart by the black hole’s tidal forces and the star experiences what is called spaghettification. (Hahaha, Mardi says “I swear that’s the real scientific term they use!”)

[rosette nebula] the polish: a holographic duo-chrome with a subtle color shift from bright pink to red-orange. This looks great on its own, but can also be layered over black for a more dramatic effect. This is such a beautiful, rose-y shade!

The real thing: A large, spherical region measuring roughly 50 light years in diameter that is located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy and roughly 5,000 light years from Earth.

[mystic mountain] the polish: a strong multi-chrome, with no shimmer, that shifts in color from green, to blue-purple, to red. I didn’t happen to catch any red in my pictures, but I did find some purple! I do think you might find some red in there, though! This one is beautiful!!

The real thing: a region observed in the Carina Nebula where newly formed stars fire off gas jets from within the peaks of this towering dust pillar and is located roughly 7,500 light years from Earth (or as Mardi says “or roughly forty-five thousand trillion miles away-that’s 45,000,000,000,000,000!!”). It was imaged in 2010, during the Hubble Space Telescope’s 20th anniversary.

[cosmic dust] the polish: a subtle, but noticeable, multi-chrome with a matching shimmer that shifts in color from red-violet to magenta to dark red-orange. You can wear it alone, or layered over black for a more dramatic effect. This is another one of my favorites from this collection. It just glows! And it is SO gorgeous!

The real thing: Dust which exists in outer space and can be further distinguished by its location: intergalactic, interstellar, interplanetary, and circumplanetary. An annoyance to astronomers at first who then discovered it could do amazing things like actually create and form entire planets. Wow!

[pistol star] the polish: a holographic duo-chrome with a strong color shift from bright blue to vibrant purple. This is another one that can be worn alone or have a more dramatic look when worn over a black base. This is a GORGEOUS blue! And you know me and blues! =P

The real thing: a blue hyper giant – a really bright star showing signs of losing mass at a very high rate; it’s named after and illuminates the Pistol Nebula. Both are located about 25,000 light years away from Earth in the Quintuplet cluster. The Pistol Star is one of the most luminous stars in the Milky Way Galaxy and radiates as much energy in 20 seconds as the Sun can in an entire year!! That’s amazing!
