Welcome to polishedbybeckie.com. I hope you enjoy your time here!

I'm Beckie. I manage our family-owned self-storage facility. I am also a professional photographer focusing on product photography, and I LOVE all things nail polish (ESPECIALLY nail art)!

I thought this would be a fun place to share my manis and swatches that I do, as well as discussing new favorite colors and brands, and my ever-growing polish collection! I mean, hey, I could have worse addictions, right? ;-)

Stamping has become my newest obsession, and I've been finding all sorts of new brands to try!

Handcrafted Artisan Soap by Top Shelf Lacquer | Indie Brand Review

**this product is a press sample and was sent to me to test and give my honest review**

Today I want to share with you some amazing artisan soap by Top Shelf Lacquer. It has been ages since I have tried a homemade soap, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Top Shelf Lacquer artisan soaps

First let’s get into the specs of this gorgeous bar of soap. It’s approximately 3″ x 3″ x 1″. It is hand-stamped with Amy’s beautiful logo (disclaimer: not all of the soaps can be stamped as some of them are scrubs and the stamp doesn’t hold up well on the scrubs). And she has a variety of yummy scents! The one that was sent to me to review is [creamy coconut].

I decided to review this soap by using it for shaving (since I shave with soap anyway). I cut my bar in half so that it was a little easier to hold onto in the shower. As I rubbed it onto my legs, I didn’t really notice a lather, per se, but it definitely left a nice little creamy layer of soap on my legs. It felt much nicer than the regular soap I use, and smelled much better too! I have only used it for two days now, but it gave me a nice clean shave each day (I shave daily) and no razor burn! And of course, it left my legs feeling nice and silky smooth!

I can’t wait to order a couple more now! There are so many yummy scents! And lots of them are milder scents too (for those of us with scent sensitivities). Go check out Amy’s shop, and order some today!

The Summer of ’96 by Lollipop Posse Lacquer | Indie Polish Review

**this product is a press sample and was sent to me to swatch and give my honest review**

Today I want to tell you a little bit about “The Summer of ’96”. It was a great summer!! I went to my senior prom with my best friend. I graduated from high school. I moved away from home. My prom date asked me to marry him, and a few months later we got married (we’ll have our 20th anniversary this year!!). And along the way we had some great music! 1996 was a good year for some awesome alternative rock!

Karen, of Lollipop Posse Lacquer, has created this gorgeous collection inspired by some of her favorite songs from that summer! And as I was swatching these, I was singing these songs in my head, and floods of memories came flashing back! It took me longer to swatch these than it normally would have because I just kept having waves of nostalgia while I was polishing my nails. It was a great day! Anyway, lets get to the polishes!! (clicking on the polish name will take you directly to that polish in Karen’s shop)

The formulas are great (as per usual from Karen). The finishes are fun and unique. And the colors are gorgeous!!!

Lollipop Posse Lacquer summer of 1996 collection

First up is [prism perfect]; a black crelly loaded with purple and sapphire holographic micro glitters and a dusting of silver holographic pigment. I used two coats and top coat for my swatch. (you will definitely need top coat for this one as it dries slightly textured, and top coat will also help bring out the amazing shine!) This is one of my favorites!!

This one is inspired by Tori Amos’ “professional widow”

Next up is [love the one you got]; a very pigmented pink (not neon but not dull either!) with a flash of violet-blue shimmer! Two coats and top coat for my swatch. I love this one!!

This is inspired by Sublime’s “What I Got”

Here is [the get-fresh flow]; a blue/green shimmer base with duo-chrome pigment that shifts between green, blue, violet, and pink/red. Two buttery coats and top coat. This is another favorite, because…just look!!

This one is inspired by Beck’s “Where it’s at”

Next up [the devil in me]; a gorgeous purple filled with violet to blue shifting shimmer and duo-chrome pigment that shifts between purple, blue, and copper! I mean, COME ON!!! <jaw drops> Two coats and top coat for my swatch.

Inspired by The Chemical Brothers’ “Setting Sun”

Here we have [cool kids never have the time]; a turquoise with blue/gold shifting shimmer and linear holographic pigment. Two coats and top coat for my swatch. I LOVE this one. Easily one of my favorites, and you know me and greens!!!

Inspired by Smashing Pumpkins ” 1979″

[love is a hell you cannot bear]; a magenta crelly filled with violet to blue shifting shimmer and micro flakies. Two coats and top coat for my swatch. Just wow!

Inspired by Fiona Apple’s ” Sleep to Dream”

Lastly we have [i felt you like electric light]; a blue based duo-chrome linear holo that contains a cyan/blue/purple shift and also has linear holo flakies! OH MY!!! This is two coats and top coat, and is seriously my favorite of the bunch!! This one just caught my eye right out of the box!! It is so beautiful!

Inspired by Bush’s “Machinehead” (fun little fact; I actually went to this Bush concert my senior year! So much fun!)

So what are your picks from this collection? My top three choices if I could only choose three would be [i felt you like electric light], [cool kids never have the time], and [prism perfect]! But again, they’re ALL gorgeous!!!

These are available currently (though a few are on backorder and will be restocked soon-July 31st I believe), so go check out Karen’s shop, and order yours today!

An update on me, and why I’ve been absent lately

So I mentioned in one of my recent blog posts that I have been dealing with some health issues recently. In fact, I have actually been sick for a few years, and have been trying for almost as long to find a specialist who would see me. It has been a battle of finding someone who was taking new patients as well as was accepting my insurance.

First of all, a couple of years ago, my primary physician did some routine blood work that showed that I had a high ANA level. (for those who don’t know what that means, it is a marker for autoimmune diseases) So ever since that first blood work came back, he’s been trying to find me a rheumatologist. I live in California, and apparently there aren’t a whole lot of them here (who’d have thunk it, right?). They sent my file to nearly all of them and waited. And waited. All the while rerunning my ANA panel every couple of months to monitor my numbers.

It had been a struggle. There were offices that were accepting my insurance, but weren’t currently accepting new patients, or were accepting new patients but not accepting my insurance. And it went on like this for over a year. Until finally we got a call back from Stanford Medical Center. Hallelujah!! They schedule my appointment (they’re pretty booked, so it’s about 4 months out, making my appointment for February of this year), and I wait. 3 weeks before the appointment, they call me and ask me what insurance I have because my doc’s office never sent that information over. I tell them, and they say “Oh, we don’t take that kind of insurance.” I literally started crying. We’ve just wasted 4 months! She apologizes and hangs up. I call my doctor’s office and let the referral gal know, and we start ALL over in our search.

Fast forward a couple of months, the last week of June to be exact, and I get a call from a rheumatology office down in Napa, and they have my file and would like to schedule an appointment for a consult, could I possibly come in the next day? Whoa!! I apologize because I’m caught off guard, and tell her that I’m unable to take the day off work that quickly, so she schedules my appointment for two weeks out. While I’m on the phone, I verify that they DO in fact accept my insurance, praise Jesus!

Consult appointment day is here, and my awesome friend makes the drive with me (Napa is approximately 3-4 hours away from where I live depending on traffic and road conditions)! I am nervous, excited, and even a little bit scared. We get to the appointment and meet the doctor, who I really like by the way. To get to know me, and my symptoms, he is asking me all sorts of questions, and looking at (the very small amount of stuff) the information that my doctor sent over (can you believe that my doctor didn’t even send over my recent labs??). He orders a bunch of lab work and X-rays of his own and sets up an appointment for a follow up in 2 weeks. In the mean time, he gives me an idea of what he thinks I might have. But he wants to wait for labs to come back to give me a definitive answer.

During these two weeks, I am doing research on the two autoimmune diseases that he told me about that he thinks I might have. Neither of them sound very pleasant. They are both life-long diseases, but both are treatable. Finally I have to stop because there’s no use getting worked up when I don’t have the answers yet.

Two week follow up day is here (which was last Wednesday, July 20th), and now My Loving Man makes the trip with me. He likes my doctor, too. After checking in with how I’m feeling (I had forgotten to mention that he prescribed me some prednisone for some of the inflammation I have been having because of some arthritis), and seeing that I am doing a bit better, he tells me his diagnosis. Lupus and fibromyalgia with underlying systemic sclerosis. <bomb drops> Lupus was one of the diseases he’d mentioned at the previous appointment, so I was half expecting that, but I was not expecting the fibro diagnosis.

I have done A LOT of research on my own over the last year, so in a way, I wasn’t surprised by the lupus or systemic sclerosis (especially the systemic sclerosis, as that showed up over a year ago in some blood work, but my primary physician wrote it off as a false positive). Most of my symptoms fit the systemic sclerosis. I was having a little harder time making the lupus fit, as my symptoms aren’t as obvious as the systemic sclerosis, but it does still fit.

I am still working on processing these diagnoses; the idea that I have life-long diseases that affect my livelihood, my day-to-day and how I’ll feel for the rest of my life, it’s still stressful and gut-wrenching to say the least . I have had a few days of feeling very depressed (it runs in my family pretty deep). But I am trying not to let it bring me down.

Now we work on finding the right treatment (the original treatment pan he wanted to do, the insurance denied it). So I go back for another follow up on August 17th. It will actually be my last appointment with him, as he is moving to San Jose to open up his own practice, so I will be seeing his associate after that. I am hoping I like her as much as I like him.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. I appreciate you! I plan on trying to keep up with journaling (if you can call it that) about my illness adventures over on my old photography blog. So if you’d like to keep up with that, head over to my photography blog, and bookmark it!

The main reason for this (excessively) long post is to let you all know that I will be taking an extended break from swatching for a while, during this time of working out my treatment plan. Not only have I been sick but I have been dealing with a lot of pain, and it has become harder and harder to sit at my mani desk and do swatching. I will still be doing occasional manis and will post them, but for the time being, I just can’t sit at my desk for hours and do swatching. I will also be continuing with some brands to do their bottle photography (that doesn’t require me sitting for hours, working with my hands too intimately), so you can expect to see bottle shots on occasion as well.

Thank you SO much for all of your support! I truly appreciate you!

Lightning has Struck by Stached Polish | Indie Polish Review

**this product is a press sample and was sent to me to swatch and give my honest review**

Today’s post has some gorgeous polish in it by Holly of Stached Polish! This 7 piece collection launches on Sunday, July 31st (I’m sorry, I don’t remember the time, but I think it’s around 6p PDT?). This collection is full of shimmers, glitters, and even a beautiful creme!! So let’s get to some pictures why don’t we!!

Stached Polish lightning has struck collection web banner

First up is [yule ball]; a beautiful glitter concoction of blues and pinks! I used 2 coats and top coat for my swatch. I’m not big on glitters, but this one is gorgeous!!! (this can be worn as a topper with one coat or built up to be worn on its own)

Next is [triwizard champion]; a fuchsia/magenta flakie foil-y beauty. I think this one is my favorite of the bunch!! I used 2 glorious coats and top coat for my swatch.

Here we have the creme of the bunch [the gray lady]; an amazing medium gray creme. Two coats and top coat for my swatch. Such a perfect gray!

[transfiguration]; a flakie/foil-y beauty with a purple/blue shift. Gor.GEOUS!!! Two coats and top coat for my swatch.

This royal blue with fun lightning bolt glitters is called [undesireable no. 1]. I used two coats and top coat for my swatch. I didn’t really have to fish for the glitters, but they also didn’t want to come out for each nail. I also have very curvy nails, so they didn’t lay flat on my nails. That aside, this is a fun polish!

Next is the namesake polish [lightning has struck]; a golden yellow beauty. I actually really LOVE this one!! Two coats and top coat for my swatch. The yellow is such a great color, and I feel like it looks pretty good with my skin tone.

And lastly we have [malfoy manor]; a blackened teal flakie/foil-y polish with a purple shimmer/shift. Two coats and top coat for my swatch. Another favorite!

LuLaCremes by Love Angeline | Indie Polish Review

**this product is a press sample and was sent to me to swatch and give my honest review**

Recently Natosha, of Love Angeline, started up her LuLaRoe business and decided to make some beautiful creme polishes to match! I am a sucker for pretty creme polishes, and these beauties are so perfect for summer! I have only swatched them, and still can’t wait to use them for some nail art! So let’s get to the pictures already…..

Love Angeline lularoe collection full size

First up [becky]; a pastel yellow creme. I used 2 coats and top coat for my swatch. The first coat was pretty streaky/patchy, but the second coat seemed to even it out. The formula on this one is fairly thin, and I did have some flooding around my cuticle, but it wasn’t too bothersome. It’s such a buttery color!!

Next up is [venessa]; a coral/orange creme. Perfect in two coats! I have nothing else to say about this one. Just gorgeous! One of my favorites so far!

Love Angeline lularoe venessa

Here we have [robin]; a bubble gum pink creme. Two coats and top coat. This one was the thicker one in the bunch, but it still applied nicely.

Up next [lizzie]; a purple creme. You know me…I love purple!!! Two coats and top coat. This was another one with perfect application! Buttery smooth!!

Here we have [crystal]; an almost dusty pastel blue creme. Two coats and top coat for my swatch. This one was finicky one the first coat. It actually shrunk on the first coat, almost like I had oil on my fingers (I didn’t). But then the second coat covered it up like it never happened. Very strange. But the formula itself still applied nicely overall.

The last beauty in this collection is [jennifer]; an aqua creme. This is one of my favorites from the collection. Two easy coats and top coat. Great formula!

Overall the polishes in this collection are great! The colors are beautiful, and I think you need them ALL!!! Visit Natosha’s shop to purchase yours today!
